1st quarter: Identity and social justice
What is Social Justice?
How does class, race, gender, and other components of my status and identity shape my opportunities and obstacles?
This quarter is devoted to building a foundation for future social justice work. Students begin to clarify their values, explore some challenging social justice case studies, and begin to take on the five key Social Justice practices, emphasizing compassion. By the end of the quarter students will have a meaningful and personal definition of social justice. Additionally students will explore the role that place, race and privilege play in shaping their social networks, opportunities and disadvantages. Our training this quarter will focus on Race and Identity.
